The KCAL have again not read the LVEC business plan or own a decent calculator!
It has been reported by all the local papers that the final report from the city...to move the facility from the downtown location (sort of downtown - near the North Corner of downtown) would cost anywhere between 16- 20 million.
Those estimates are not far off the 10-15 million already issued in a City memo a few weeks early to the new council.
So, I guess its not a good idea to move it! - Duh!
Frankly; it seemed ridiculous to even consider it. (Another waist of City staff's time!)
The facility frankly should never have been moved in the first place.
Anglan Bay site a few meters North was the best location! And is 30% larger for the same money!
The naysayers in there" infinite wisdom" cannot seem to take yes as an answer!
As research tells us! (If you read it)
The council agreed to build it with no undue risk to the public. Vote 8-5 for the project!
Just because we have a few more members left wing (in nature) does this guarrantee the citizens at the end of this new council, will feel anymore confident in councils decision making" at the end of the day? I seem to guess they may not. Should we just not vote at council anymore - does it have no purpose or meaning?
So, why do groups like KCAL - keep bringing up the LVEC? or the "the Skydome X-files"?.
I think they undermine democracy with niave statements and inexperience!
Their latest niave rant seems to need to compare the Montreal Olympic "Games" - 30 year debt pay off - to that of our tiny "multipurpose facility"?
Where is the "true comparison".???
i.e. Do they not know the difference between our one tiny building and the entire Montreal Olympic Games Facility?
The facts:
The (main Olympic Stadium) was not a billion + dollars.
The whole Olympic grounds, including housing facilities and the man made island, the upkeep, maintenance for the past 30 years and safety and insurance costs - is the true and final cost they claim.
NOT the one Stadium building - new!
And it was also financed knowing (like a regular home mortgage) after 30 years, it would be "debt free". And it is......So, what does that have to do with our tiny - LVEC???
Is the Montreal " "O" Stadium - 50, 000 seats plus floor area seating.. the same as our?
Hmmm...I don't remember our LVEC ever being a single use facility for the Olyimpic Games?
I never read that in the LVEC business plan, or frankly in any documentation regarding our multipurpose building"?
They are making it up as they go.........?
These are KCAL Expert questions? - to compare the LVEC and the big "O"???
They neither have any specific data to support their claims and seem to move (at convienience) between conspiracy theory and bombastic assumptions is their claim to "fame"
-like below:
"The suckers, so it's believed, will just show up, night after night, and are to accept paying for parking, then walking far in all weather, enter with surcharged tickets, be captive to on-site concessions, to then be lorded over by those same project proponents from above in private luxury suites, all watcing crappy hockey or the sort of entertainment that tends to play in smallish hockey bowls."
Huh....? What are you talking about KCAL?
Is this some sort of KCAL business plan? - Needs a rewrite, spell checked to!!
Here's another of their silly statement:
"On a municipal per-capita cost basis, even if you only count the LVEC building and ignore all the downtown improvements required, (which would be done anyways) the cost of Harvey Rosen's LVEC spread over 140,000 people is absolutely comparable (if not greater) to the $1 billion cost of the Olympic Stadium spread over the 3.4 million population of Montreal."
Note: 1 billion is NOT for the stadium - alone !
It was for the ENTIRE OLYIMPIC VILLAGE PROJECT AND ALL FACILITIES!
- Oh ya.......And the expensive retractable roof - (we don't have one)
1 Billion tallied: is what KCAL is comparing to our LVEC.?
Ok - well thats (really) stretching it but....
Ok - So, I will go with $ 1,000,000,000 anyways..........just to check!
$ 294.00 per for 3.4 million Montrealers....= $ 1,000,000,000
- although as the article says Quebec Smokers paid for it - all others did not pay a dime.
- and it is still used today and into the future for trade events, sports events and is debt free.
- and a place to put 50,000 plus people in one place.
But, infact we do have grants, donations, revenue to pay for most of the upfront costs for the LVEC - "i.e the building".
So, where is the issue KCAL?
The facility cost to the public is nothing. So, the math says = "$ 0".
If the public even needs to pay (worst senerio) 25 % of the building
The result would = $ 71.00 per person.
(based on $ 10,000,000)
So, that proves:
Our LVEC is "affordable" and a economic engine like the Labatts Centre!
Well I tell you (that also proves) four other points:
1) The two facilities are NOT comparable (either in cost per citizen, or building finacing)
2) Its alot cheaper - than to fix up and maintain the Memorial Centre !
3) And you have a building that is both brand NEW and envoromentally LEED designed!
4) And is truly "designed" for (multipurpose usages)
Maybe KCAL needs to visit a facility and read a business plan first !
- to even begin to know what they are taking about!
And please remember to specifically include: in your comparisions:
- (ie. the grant, donations & fundraising money)
......they are in the LVEC business plan -
.............a page called: "financials"
Again -you have been LVEC educated.
With real information - NOT KCAL's misinformation.
